Kiehl's overview_header
Kiehl’s was founded as an old-world apothecary in New York’s East Village neighborhood over 150 years ago.  The Kiehl’s experience supports an active, healthy lifestyle; aviation, alpine ski racing, and equestrian expertise are all part of the Kiehl’s heritage and legacy. Perhaps one of the most recognizable of these thematic elements reflects Kiehl’s traditions in motorcycling, with the company’s collection of vintage motorcycles on display in Kiehl’s freestanding stores around the globe for patrons to enjoy.

Editor's Note:
Their flagship store located in the East Village on Third Avenue and is squeezed into a spot just between 13th and 14th street. Old world apothecary look and feel, knowledgeable staff, and of course great products await you. It's a MUST see experience if you live, work or play in Manhattan.

I snuck into the store one day and did some secret shave shopping. You know asked some tough questions hoping to stump the help. Not a chance!

Can't swing by Manhattan? Their website www.kiehls.com features their full product line and is first class. Sorry US shipping only.

Kiehl's Close Shaver pre shave oil is loaded with yummy oils. As soon as you twist open the tiny 1.7 oz. squeeze bottle you'll smell spearmint with a hint of eucalyptus. Experienced pre shavers will know that those ingredients help soften your beard, and make your shave just that much more of a pleasurable experience. If you're skin is oily like mine, take comfort, Kieh'ls formula rinsed away with leaving any residue once I was done shaving.

I also like the squeeze bottle because it helps me meter out just the right amount oil, 5 drops. Although the label claims you can use alone to shave, I've personally never tryed that feat. I'm too fond of their shave cream I guess.

Usage:
I start out by squeezing 5 drops into one palm and rub together with my other hand. This seems to warm the oil up slightly before use. I then rub onto my DRY face complete with last night's stubble. If you think you didn't use enough, feel free to use more. Remember it rinses away. Don't fret about the economics of this product. If you use it right you'll get 4 to 6 months of shaving pleasure out of it.

I've always loved the smell, and consistency of the product is just right. Not to runny of an and not too thick. I don't want it to feel like I'm applying olive oil to my face. Kiehl's like few others gets this right.

I suggest you follow up with one of Kiehl's great shave creams for perfect shave everytime.

If you're new to pre shave oils, test this method out one side of your face. Honestly see if the oil doesn't make a difference. If you're not satisfied you received a better shave, Kiehl's stands behind their products. Save your receipt, they'll take the product back no questions asked.

No problems here. My only suggestion would be a flip top on the bottle so I can close it up when my hands are wet and oily.
