Burts BeesCOULD THIS BE THE END OF BURT'S BEES

We're all scratching our heads here at ShaveReview trying to figure out how Oakland based Clorox will have the wherewithall to run a beauty business. The fact that Clorox paid four times sales for Burt's (projected to be $170 million) leads us to believe they feel quite confident about execution with Burt's existing sales force, or that the new  "Green" product line will be just what the Clorox distribution pipe needs to offset a lackluster 1% quarterly decline in their core profits.

Let's face it we're not rushing out to the store to buy more bleach these days. And if we did, we're not going to find it at Whole Foods where Burt's products are sold. To their credit Clorox already manages a few other consumer brands:

  • Glad
  • Kingsford
  • KC Masterpiece
  • Amor All car care

However these core brands move at a snails pace compared to the health and beauty brands.

Burt fans stay tuned!

Other Green Strategies
The Clorox "green" acquisition strategy remains consistent with other big thinkers in the health and beauty industry these days including:

  • L'Oreal - the Body Shop
  • Estee Lauder - Aveda
  • Colgate - Tom's of Maine

So who's next?
Match.com's "Green and Available"

  • Clarins (French)
  • L'Occitane (French)
  • Weleda (German)
  • Jurlique (Australian)
  • Avalon (US)
  • Lush (UK)
  • Living Nature (New Zealand)

Match.com's "Not Green, but got Green"
P&G's the obvious. They just announced they're "going green." That shareholder's meeting remark comes on the heels of another amazing announcement regarding their acquisition of Gillette.

Gillette is the fastest growing brand in P&G's history!
