Interview: Master Barber Will Williams, Bump Patrol

Q1: Will, What's your shave ritual?

Shaving is a three step process for me. I prep my face for the shave by gently cleansing, follow that up with a great lather and shave, and finish off with a moisturizing after shave. This process takes me all of about eight to ten minutes.

Reviewed: Baxter of California After Shave Balm

The Baxter of California brand was established in Beverly Hills, by Baxter Finley in the 60's. You remember the 60’s; Joe "Willy" Namath shaved off his Fu Manchu mustache with an electric razor on national TV for $15,000.

Reviewed: Lavera Men Care Shaving Cream

If you've got sensitive skin, and have tried other "natural" or "organic" shave creams, stop looking and buy this product. You won't be disappointed. Great lather, nice smell, smooth shave. Aloe Vera Soothes, Witch Hazel and Calendula help calm any irritation or razor burn.

Reviewed: EarthScience Azulene Moisturizing Shave Creme

Product lays down blue, so it's easy to see where you've covered or still need to cover. Consistency is thick and extremely slippery for an outstanding shave. My face feels very soft after my shave and moisturized for the entire day. The scent clean, fresh and citric, nice if you like it, not so nice if you don't. My wife loves it. Don't forget to rinse your razor often, as the razor clogs a lot due to thickness of creme

Reviewed: John Allan's Splash

John Allan’s Splash had an appealingly light scent to it, which leads me to believe it is a more casual product than the Balm. It had a nice astringent in it which was no overly noticeable. Another great product from John Allan! I especially like the Chamomile and Aloe for my dry skin. It goes on light, soothes the skin, and smells great!

Reviewed: MenScience Post-Shave Repair

I’ve tried many post shave products, but none quite as unique as MenScience Post Shave Repair. The light consistency of the mist defines the product, and its use. It’s a healer and a toner NOT a cream, gel or balm.

Crabtree & Evelyn's Nomad Shave Cream is one of my new favorite shave creams! The shave cream produced a wonderful lather when using a badger-hair brush. And while I am not a large fan of scents in my male skin care, the Nomad line had a lovely exotic scent.

Miessence After Shave Balm

Rarely have we seen so many "good for your shave/skin" ingredients packed into one product. (Aloe, Witchhazel, chamomile, patchouli, sandalwood, St. John's wort, lavender, marshmellow root) The ingredient label on Miessence After Shave Balm reads like a trip to your local Whole Foods or Organic Market! So let's open it up and try it.

Weleda Shave Cream

Weleda's Shave Cream comes in a metal tube, reminiscent of your father's old crinkled up shave tubes. All comparisons stop here. Weleda's cream consistency is smooth, silky and well creamy. The scent is fairly neutral, but has a touch of freshness to it. Probably attributable to the touch of Sweet Almond extract present.

Molton Brown Ultracalm Lemon Leaf Shavewax

As soon as you open Molton Brown Ultracalm Lemon Leaf Shavewax and put a quarters worth in your palm you'll realize this product is all about lemon. Don't be freaked. Rub it into your beard using your fingertips and give it a minute or two to absorb into your face. If you're awake you'll start to smell the subtly of ginger and maybe even lavende scents. All good for your face and charma.

HIS BioElements Perfect Shave

Bioelements’ Perfect Shave comes in a non-descript white tube with green lettering. The simple design reminds me of Aromapharmacy’s products. The cream does not need a brush for application. Massaging it in with hands I was treated to a very fresh scent. It had faint hints of mint, citrus, and felt very natural [as opposed to some brands that feel like to are putting a foreign substance on your face]. The cream spread well on my cro-magnon face and shaved off just as easy.
